OutBack Power and HiQ Solar Introduce the ProHarvest Line for
Commercial Solar Installations

A joint development between the Silicon Valley solar innovator and the industry leader

in off-grid, hybrid and energy storage systems provides assurance, bankability for

commercial solar projects

Arlington, Wash., September 13, 2016 – OutBack Power Technologies, a leader in off-grid and Grid/Hybrid renewable energy products and systems, announced the next milestone in its partnership with HiQ Solar, an innovator in 3-phase power-conversion technology for commercial and industrial solar applications:  ProHarvest by OutBack Power.  The new brand will be offered by OutBack’s direct sales group through selected distribution sales partners, while HiQ Solar will continue to work with its project partners. Furthermore, OutBack Power’s technical and applications and warranty groups will support OutBack sales of ProHarvest products.

“With ProHarvest, we can get HiQ’s ‘project-proven’ technology in front of a wider audience and open new opportunities through installers wishing to grow their commercial business” said Harvey Wilkinson, general manager of OutBack Power.  Added HiQ Solar’s chairman and CEO, Lutz Henckels, “our unique technology makes commercial solar ‘plug and play’ viable for solar contractors looking to expand their portfolios and offer commercial services.  In partnership with OutBack Power using the ProHarvest line, we can now provide that technology with the assurance and support required to earn many new customers.”

Over the past five years, commercial solar installation has grown significantly, with equally dramatic shifts in balance-of-system preferences.  Once dominated by large, powerful and relatively economical (but inflexible and bulky) central inverters, the trend today is to use many string inverters which are easier to install and provide redundancy; if an inverter fails the entire system is not out of commission.  The HiQ approach combines the best of all worlds: improved economics of a large string inverter, with the array-mounting and form-factor of a microinverter.  With this technology, installers have a “plug and play” system architecture to work with.  Key components literally snap together, saving considerable installation time and effort. Equally important, this system topology meets all code-required standards for rapid shut-down and disconnect in commercial systems—very important for system owners and their stakeholders.

The two companies will be exhibiting at Solar Power International in Las Vegas, September 13-15, and will follow that with an OutBack training program designed to bring the full commercial opportunity made available with the new ProHarvest by OutBack program to solar installers around the country. Visit OutBack Power at booth 2825 and HiQ Solar at booth 1979.

HiQ Solar’s TrueString 480V Inverter Wins Prestigious Intersolar Photovoltaics Award for 2015

SANTA CLARA, Calif., June 11th, 2015

At a ceremony held at the Intersolar Europe trade show in Munich, Germany, Dr. Lutz Henckels, CEO of HiQ Solar received the Award for solar innovation for the TrueString 480V. “HiQ Solar’s device is a worthy winner of the Intersolar Award 2015,” said the judging panel.

Introduced less than a year ago, the TrueString 480V 8 kW 3-phase inverter had to be innovative and convince the jury of “it’s extraordinary nature”. The submission process included supplying information on patents, data sheets, test reports and certifications earned. In order to qualify for submission, the product had to have undergone industrial trials and/or already be in industrial use, be judged to have particular innovative merit in technological and economical terms, create scope for cost reductions in production and/or sales and have the potential to make an important contribution towards satisfying industrial or societal needs.

The award team summarizes the product benefits as follows:

Lightweight and robust – an inverter for customized roof-mounted installations. The three-phase TrueString 480V Inverter from young Californian manufacturer HiQ Solar was predominantly designed with industrial roof-mounted installations in mind. Two separate 1,000 V DC entry points with independent MPP tracking (maximum power point tracking) allow installations to be configured more flexibly and ensure that these installations are working at maximum capacity. Thanks to ultramodern semiconductor technology based on silicon carbide, the innovation has a CEC efficiency (according to the California Energy Commission) of 98% as well as a high power density, making it more lightweight than conventional systems. At just 11 kg, the inverter is easy to handle and install. Furthermore, the device is robust enough to withstand even extreme conditions, such as in desert or in coastal regions.

HiQ Solar Announces the TrueString 480V Passes Level 1 Combined Thermal Shock and G-Force HALT Testing

SANTA CLARA, Calif., February 23rd, 2015

HiQ Solar today announces the TrueString 480V 3-phase inverter has passed Level 1 HALT testing. The testing involved shaking the unit at 25g while simultaneously temperature cycling it from -40 to 65°C repeatedly. During this ordeal the inverter was operating successfully and being monitored the entire time. Highly Accelerated Life Testing (HALT) is performed to uncover latent defects in product design, component selection and manufacturing that would not otherwise be found through conventional qualification methods.

The HiQ TrueString TS480-8k is an 8 kW 3-phase PV inverter designed for a 25-year lifetime on commercial rooftops. It’s small size and weight makes it ideal for array mounting, easily meeting the needs of 2014 NEC 690.12 Rapid Shutdown.

“Basing the design on a single circuit board and NEMA6 enclosure really paid off in this testing” said Marv Dargatz, of HiQ Solar; “HALT is a continuous process of testing, and these first results give us confidence in the design philosophy.”

The testing was performed at Reliant Labs in Sunnyvale, California, a leader in HALT/HASS testing. The report can be found here.

HiQ Solar Announces New TrueString 480V PV Inverter, the String Inverter Built Like a Micro Inverter

SANTA CLARA, Calif., July 7, 2014

HiQ Solar today announces the new TrueString 480V 3-phase, 1,000Vdc inverter. Aimed at commercial photovoltaic (PV) solar installations, it offers new benchmarks in ruggedness, power density and data reporting. With 8 kW packed into a NEMA6 enclosure and weighing only 24 lbs., the new product is ideal for rooftop, carport and other locations where it can be mounted in almost any location. Adding to this, the sealed, waterproof and silent package is particularly suitable for hostile environments such as desert, coastal and high altitude locations. It has peak efficiency above 98.5%, and conforms to UL1741. With a power density of 0.72 kW/kg, it has twice the power density of large string inverters and is therefore very price competitive with them.

Where other string inverters parallel several strings together, the TrueString 480V inverter handles two 4 kW single strings individually, providing separate monitoring, MPPT and arc detection for each. This means an ideal level of management and monitoring for commercial-sized installations, with enough granularity to see issues as they arise without being swamped in data.

The HiQ Solar TrueString 480V PV inverter joins the existing HiQ 208V 3.5 kW Mini Inverter and is available now. For more information visit www.hiqsolar.com. The new product will be showcased at Intersolar North America in San Francisco, 8-10th July, 2014, Booth 8537.
